If you’re at the Zoo today, you may spot our Zoo Crew and volunteers telling you all about National Start Seeing Monarchs Day! This day highlights the environmental importance of Monarch butterflies as pollinators.

Monarch butterflies are threatened by habitat loss, but we can help save monarchs by planting milkweed and other native plants!. On your next visit to the Zoo, stop by one of our pollinator gardens in Explore the Wild or near the entrance of South America’s Pantanal, and you may see a butterfly or two.

Here at Houston Zoo, we're dedicated to saving ani

Here at Houston Zoo, we're dedicated to saving animals in the wild, not just globally, but locally too! This #TexasNativeSpeciesDay, we are highlighting our amazing Houston Toad team and all that they do for these Texas natives. At the Zoo there is a Houston toad quarantine facility that serves as a location for the breeding of wild Houston toad egg strands for release into the wild. So far this year, our team has released 1.1 million eggs and 5,000 tadpoles into Bastrop County. Stop and see our Houston toads inside the Reptile and Amphibian House at your next Zoo visit!
